Conceived by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1962, Taccia Small is a compact interpretation of the original Taccia table lamp. Its distinctive silhouette brings together a substantial grooved base and a broad, elevated diffuser. The balance of these forms gives the lamp a sculptural presence while keeping its construction and practical purpose clearly in view.
The design grew from the idea of turning a ceiling lamp upside down. Light from the source is directed towards the reflector by an adjustable transparent glass diffuser, then softened and reflected into the room. This indirect arrangement creates a gentle ambient glow, while the exposed structure and industrial character of the grooved base retain the Castiglionis’ clear, functional approach to design.
In the Matte White configuration, the reflector is gloss white on the outside and matt white on the inside. The contrast defines its broad, curved form and shapes the reflected light. A painted aluminium reflector, extruded aluminium body and nickel-plated base bring together differing finishes and surfaces without obscuring the lamp’s straightforward logic.
Its compact interpretation of the Taccia profile makes it well suited to side tables, consoles, bedside arrangements and workspaces. Use it as a considered source of directional yet ambient light, or place it as a quietly architectural object within a residential, hospitality or office interior. Designed for indoor dry locations, Taccia Small carries the character of the 1962 design into settings where a composed, indirect light is welcome.
